# Managing your golems

## Caring for your golems

* **Wax** with a honeycomb to stop oxidation — just like vanilla. An oxidizing golem still works; waxing simply freezes its finish.
* **Check on one** — right-click a golem empty-handed to see its current job and route.
* **Follow / stay** — sneak + right-click empty-handed to toggle a golem following you. A follower walks to you and teleports to catch up (vanilla-pet style) if it falls too far behind or crosses worlds.

## Whistle recall

Hold a **copper ingot**, sneak, and right-click the air to **call your nearby golems to heel**. Whistle again to send them back to work. Handy for relocating a crew or gathering everyone before a big change.

The whistle item, radius, and glow are all configurable — see [Configuration](/machina-docs/workorders/configuration.md).

## Ownership & trust

* Golems belong to whoever assigned them. **Only the owner (or a trusted friend) can re-task a golem**, so nobody hijacks your crew.
* Trust-sharing lets a build team manage a shared set of golems without stepping on each other.
* Ownership and re-task gating are configurable under `ownership` in [`config.yml`](/machina-docs/workorders/configuration.md).

## Coexists with vanilla

Work Orders sits alongside vanilla copper-golem behaviour. Managed golems focus on their assigned job; unmanaged golems keep doing their normal copper-chest sorting. You opt a golem in simply by giving it a Work Order.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://machina-1.gitbook.io/machina-docs/workorders/managing-golems.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
